I have lived in Guangzhou for 28 years, even longer than that in my hometown. From some point of view, your book is a mirror for the current living situation of local cantonese. The places that you visited are the main locations for local people, which are different from the university where I usually stay. Actually, with the social development, many well-educated, "foreign" people have better life than the local cantonese people. There is another character for cantonese, they like cooking, but they pay little attentions on clothing. Maybe that is their tradition and the result of the hot weather.
